WHAT I am responsible

Wed May 6 11:59:01 AM

The young people, the adolescent, must understand  and learn the responsibility and learn that I am responsible . I can see myself either as an important, valuable and interesting person, or someone who is unloved  and unneeded. I can be kind, loving helpful, loyal, and compassionate, or I can be lazy, mean and disloyal.  I can be happy, free and successful or feel unimportant and less valuable than others. I must learn to be responsible for my decisions and actions and must be willing to accept the consequences they bring. Before every  important decision, I must say to myself  “what should I do” Will  I injure myself or others?  Is this in line with my beliefs and values? Am I am willing to accept all the consequences? In every situation I choose to treat myself and others with dignity, respect, and kindness.

The hope of every nation is its children. We have an opportunity to touch the lives of young people every day.  If we help, guide young people, they become productive citizens and make a real difference through our caring, understanding, guidance and teaching.  Our children need the self confidence that comes from recognizing and building on their strengths. They also need the insight to handle their emotions constructively, the ability to set goals and the knowledge and skills to stay healthy and drug free. Adolescence is a unique period in life between childhood and adulthood .They can accept changes in their physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. Most young adolescents want to be liked and accepted by people of their age. Resisting negative influences is one of the greatest challenges they will face in that period.

In Adolescence, sometimes they feel worried or uncertain about the future, they may have the feeling that no one understands what they are going through. They may be moody and angry one minute and then feel happy and exited a short time later, their emotions can change rapidly from one moment to the next. The hormones that cause physical changes also affect their emotions. Under the circumstances and pressures from friends and others they may feel like having drugs. They  are not aware of the after effects. Make them understand to take care of their body. Alcohol is the most widely used drug among adults and youth today. Alcohol dulls People’s thought and affects their actions and coordination. It can effect Judgment  and Self control . Alcohol damages the vision and also cause serious diseases like  cirrhosis of the liver, Stomach ulcers and brain damage. Drinking problems don’t just hurt the person who drinks but also his family, friends and  any other persons attached to him.

             THE MAJOR ISSUES FACING TEENAGERS

The most important issues facing our teenagers at this time. These include cyberbullying, teen violence, school shootings, Internet use and abuse, online gaming, gaming addiction, bullying, violence onT.V., and Teen suicide, parents, teenagers and communities across the country are concerned with these issues, which are caused by a number of  social, communal, economic, and indicidual factors. while it may be hard to change the nature of the Internet, T.V. or movies, there is always something that each one of us can do to reduce violence, prevent cyberbullying and the rate of suicide and help to develop a balanced use of the Internet and online gaming.

It is possible and even common for  young people to over use technology, especially online gaming. At the same time, parents and teachers would do best to undersatnd children's affinity for technology given their status as digital natives.  Young people are not addicted simply because they were born in and enjoy, the digital era.

Some young people spend too much time in front of a computer screen, spending up to 20 hours a day, seven days a week. Spending countless hours a day, every day, on gaming or perusing the internet can interfere with young people's emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development.

While the older generation may primarly use the Internet to gather important information and follow up on important news, the younger geration uses the Internet for a wider range of activities. These include homework, communication, fun, gaming social connection and interation, information gathering, to view  videos, listen to music, post photos, blog, chat etc.. Many of the older-parents generations, being digital immigrants, view almost all online activities and multitask as waste of time and lack of focus. They neither recignize, nor understand, value of online social networking, the learning that takes place in online games, the capacity of young people to multitask, and the enormous fun, pleasure and sense of community that young people, derive from these activities.

When concerned, worried, or frightened, parents yell, nag, criticise, threaten or take the computer, a crisis often ensues. Because of their social role, completely taking away the computer or otherelectronic communication should be considered only as a last resort. At times, when parents take away the computer or disconnet the internet, some youngsters have reponded with violence towards the computer, themselves or even their parents. Other have fallen into depression. Most of the time, children find other ways to connect to the Web and play gemes. They may simply do it at friends' house and in many countries, computers are available at Internet Cafe's.

  ,                                   WAT PARENTS CAN DO

*   Learn about what the Internet means to your children by talking with them

     about it.

*   Understand that most children do not just sit idly in front oof the screen. Most

often, they communicate, create, socialize, post photos, explore, listen to

     music, and learn.

*   Don't nag, label, blame, scold, prematurely or demand that they must change.

*   Observe your children with open eyes and open heart.

*   Try to agree on time limits with your child rather than coming up with your own

     limits.

*   Install parental control software when and if necessary.

                                           VIOLENCE IN MEDIA

Violence in the media, whether it is reflected in music, games, cartoons, T.V. show or movies desensitizes children to the effects of violence, legitimizes and glorifies violence and can increase aggressive behaviornor, the least, increases tolerence and acceptances of violent and abusive behavior or,  at the least, increases tolerance and acceptance of violent and abusive  behavior. After seeing violence on T.V., cartoons, and paying violent games, violence offline seems 'normal"  T.V.

Violence on T.V.occurs in most programs, including the news, and is especially prevalent in cartoons.V. and games.  By age 12, the average child has witnessed tens of thousands of acts of violence on T.V. and games. The gaming of violence are more damaging because the player is actively seeking to kill or wound fellow player. Thousands of studies have shown that violence on T.V. can influence behavior and attitudes amoung children who watch it.

                                         WHAT YOU CAN DO

A child's bedroom should be free of T.V.and video game consoles, so you have control over the amount of time they spend on games and passive activity.

                                   VIOLENCE AT HOME

The home and the neighborhood have an immence influence on children. Violent children are most likely to come from abusive homes and/or neighborhoods.

One of the main reasonsthat children become violent is because they are exposed to violence in their own home, whether it is directed towards them or towards others.

Violence at home can be a physical nature, orit can be expressed verbally or through neglet and abandonment. Abusive homes and violent neighborhoods are stronger predictor of adult violent behavior than violence in the media. Most abusive parents were physically or sexually abused as children.
